London Afrobeat Collective
LAC are powered by a promise to continue what afrobeat father Fela Kuti began. From Europe to Africa, they deliver party-music born of their truly global DNA. The nine-strong collective from England, Italy, France, Congo, Argentina and New Zealand create an addictive sound drawing on funk, jazz, rock, and dub.
In 2019, the beat goes on for festival and club crowds, energised by hook-heavy cuts from a back catalogue including 2015’s ‘Food Chain’. Produced by Leon Brichard, with artwork by artist Ben Hito (George Clinton/Parliament/Funkadelic), the album received plaudits from (amongst others) Huey Morgan, Tom Ravenscroft, Craig Charles, Jamie Cullum, The Sunday Times, the London Evening Standard and a 4 star review in Songlines.
The hotly anticipated follow up ‘HUMANS’ is set for release on Vinyl and Digital in the Autumn, following a single release in late Spring. Now a regular feature at many of the major UK festivals as well as clubs across Europe, they are guaranteed party-starters – any stage, anywhere.
“Perfectly recreating Fela Kuti’s broiling, brass-driven Afrobeat.”
Time Out Critic’s Choice
“I’ve never witnessed so much joy as that on Saturday night at Band on the Wall. London Afrobeat Collective performed a staggering energetic gig to a crowd raring to dance and get their groove on.”
Manchester Jazz Festival
“London Afrobeat Collective, …a multi-instrument band providing infectious, vibrant grooves to a crowd that literally wouldn’t let them leave the stage. The chant of ‘one more tune!’ quickly became ‘two more tunes!’ and even after two encores the applause and calls for more echoed around the tent.”
